About the guide

I know these roads the way you know a neighborhood.

I’m William P. I live in Austin and I spend most of my mornings on farm-to-market roads west and south of town — the ones with caliche shoulders, a little climbing if you want it, and live oaks that throw shade if you time it right.

This is not a tour bus and it is not a race camp. I take one rider, a couple, or a small group of friends who already like each other. We leave early. We ride real roads. We eat when we get hungry. I get you back before the day turns mean, or we keep going if that’s what you asked for.

I started guiding because I was already out here, and people kept asking where to go that wasn’t a crowded park loop. I don’t have a stack of certificates to wave around. I have a truck, a pump, a sense of when a north wind is going to ruin a pretty-looking route, and a lot of miles on the backroads between Austin, the Hill Country, and the little towns that still have a place to sit down with a taco.

If you want someone to cheer from a follow car, I’m probably not your person. If you want a day that feels like you live here, I am.

The long view between towns

Who this is for

Riders who can handle their own bike and want company that knows the next water stop. Visitors who would rather see ranch roads than a skyline loop. Locals who are tired of the same three routes. You don’t need to be fast. You do need to be honest about how you like to ride.

How a day goes

We talk first — how many hours, how much climbing, pavement or gravel, whether you want a store stop or a quiet stretch with nothing on it. I pick you up in Austin, or we meet somewhere that saves a little driving. I bring the route, the extras, and a way to change plans if the weather turns.

A usual day is three to six hours on the bike, not counting the easy talking at the start. We can keep it rolling and scenic, or go looking for the steep stuff west of town. Tell me which. I’ll build it that way.

Multi-day

A couple of days or more, sleeping in small towns, riding the long way between them. I handle the shape of the days — distance, climbing, where we eat, where we stay — and leave room for the kind of afternoon that doesn’t need a schedule. Bring what you need for a few nights. I’ll get us from one porch to the next.

$150/hourTime includes the ride and the pickup and drop-off. Based in Austin. I’ll come get you.
